HELLO WITCHES Nº86

Last week was quite a blessing. I got to spend some time outside of my usual environment an‬d it was very enjoyable. The company was good and so was the food, — and you know Leelah, she always says yes to good food! — but most importantly, I got to be there for a friend in need.

The week did seem to revolve around her, as her card signifier is The Star. That’s pretty interesting. I have noticed also that the presence of the Hierophant in readings is the sign that I will hear from a specific person on that day. Granted, the meaning of the card can stretch many, many ways. I said yes to adventure and found that it had to be made up for on Saturday, just as foreseen. Tarot rocks!

This week feels like a week of dealing with situations that need closure as well as getting grounded back into routine, albeit one that seems more flexible than most. It isn’t a week for big spending.

Three Sevens. Three Sevens mean an agreement will soon be made, a contract agreed upon or an alliance formed. That’s pretty cool!

Monday. Seven of Swords. Sometimes we need to get away from noise so that we can carry on with our lives. We shouldn’t feel self-conscious for sneaking away from those that are looking to take advantage of our time and of us. It’s okay to say no.

Tuesday. Seven of Coins. So many options, so many things to do and think about. There will be things that are out of your control as well as things that you can do something about. Pick your battles and give yourself the opportunity to go over your options.

Wednesday. King of Coins. Embrace comfort and being in charge of your affairs. It feels good to be in a cozy situation where you call the shots and make all of the important decisions. Treat yourself to something nice if you can, and pat yourself in the back for a job well done.

Thursday. Five of Coins. Sometimes finances won’t stretch as far as we need them to and we will feel limited by the constraints of money. Remember that money isn’t everything and do your best to figure everything out so that you can continue with your plans.

Friday. Devil. Repeat card from last week. Sometimes the limitations that we face are self-imposed or caused by us and we need to learn how to take care of them. Take this opportunity to evaluate what you are letting control you so that you can regain control and cut it out of your life.

Saturday. Hierophant. What have you learned from this week, and how will you apply it to the next? There is a lot to go over. The best part is that as things come into perspective, your opinion will change.

Sunday. Page of Cups. A sweet gesture that shows feelings and good intentions will be made or received. It could come in the form of an apology, being asked out for a drink or going for a quick lunch date. Whatever it is, say yes!

What to avoid. Lovers. In the words of Walt Disney himself in a very private ouija board conversation, “you can’t fix everyone.” I need to tone down the need to be constantly helping others or finding myself in difficult compromises just to please someone else. You know what? You should too! It’s okay to say no!

What to strive for. Seven of Cups. Look for some time to think. Allow your mind to wander, let yourself dream up options that you might not find palpable now, but might be someday. It feels like when we focus so much on what works and what doesn’t, we also forget to live our lives the way we would want to.

Let’s see how this week plays out. I am looking forward to being settled in my apartment. Who knew a routine would be so enjoyable??

HELLO WITCHES Nº85

Sometimes, I feel like pulling out darker decks. This one has been calling me for some time now, but I had not taken it out of its resting place since I got back from Puerto Rico. I needed some time away from it, and now after all that has happened I am beginning to see why.

I can’t believe this! After shuffling thoroughly for as long as I did, most of the cards in the reading came out as majors. This is such an imbalance, given that the only other cards are Wands and a court card from Swords. It took a little while to absorb the whole message because I was just surprised at how crazy the synchronicity was.

Monday. The Hierophant. In this card, he sits pensive with a scroll in his hand. What does the message say? What is he contemplating? It seems the news leave him in a state of worry. He is distracted and far from the nuns that stand together. He’s not part of their community, even though he is a leader. He has more important things to think about.

Tuesday. The Devil. See, the entity injects the poor soul that just needs a fix. We can’t accept our limitations as the very last thing that is out there. To surrender is to really give up. Sometimes when we push our boundaries, we find that after some trial and error, we will make it. The journey is scary, but that shouldn’t stop you from trying. Go ahead!

Wednesday. The Star. Inspiration comes at the time when you most need it. Relish it and look forward to it, because it should be a very good feeling. Let your guiding star show you the way, follow your intuition and cast aside advice from others. Here you will know that true brilliance shines from within.

Thursday. Four of Wands. Stability comes easy when you have support. Teamwork also brings you company, and in relishing the connection, you will find you have built the foundation for something in the future. Be mindful of who else is watching, but give yourself the chance to find happiness. Onwards!

Friday. The World. Open up to new possibilities and just GO! I see a big opportunity coming up that you shouldn’t think about saying anything other than YES to. Just go!

Saturday. The Tower. What did you leave without closure? You missed something very important before you went on a great adventure, but you will have a chance to go back and review what you missed so that you can build on it. See things falling apart as an opportunity to start building again.

Sunday. The Magician. Embrace your craft. Come back from your adventures with trinkets to supercharge. You have many things to do, but with the break you just took, you should be ready to lock yourself up in your lab or work place and produce something really amazing. Breathe life into your ideas!

What to avoid. Strength. Don’t let someone else control you with their agenda and their plans. You have your own, and you need to settle ground and space. Be willing to work things out, but definitely watch out for your boundaries. The key word here is boundaries, and one you must be mindful of.

What to strive for. Queen of Swords. Don’t let anyone overstep your boundaries. Know that when you feel strongly about something, you are entitled to defend it in any way that you feel will be appropriate. Be in control of your thoughts and the way you express yourself, and you will come out on top this week.
[I switched out Magician and Queen of Swords... Sorry!] A powerful spread for an interesting week. Let’s see how it goes!

HELLO WITCHES Nº84

Last week was such a learning process. I found out once more how important it is to keep those that you love close to you. It’s really hard wen closure feels like it isn’t closed enough. When you feel dissatisfied, it’s a sign that you’ve still got some ground to cover before you can start healing. Letting go isn’t easy. This stands especially true when you make a strong bond with somebody that has been torn from you at exactly the wrong time. It’s just not fair.

The past week I witnessed my dear friend laid to rest. I was once more placed in contact with his fiancée, who is supposed to be coming in the next week to spend the night and catch up. I am really looking forward to having her here and catching up little by little. We need each other right now.

I would like to think that a new chapter starts now. These cards photograph beautifully. Their meanings are contained in tableaus that don’t link seamlessly, but still resonate together in an empowering reading. This week there is an abundance of Cups… for feelings.

Monday. Hierophant. The one who holds the keys to higher knowledge. Nowadays, knowledge isn’t just handed to you. You have to earn it, and the lessons won’t always be easy to figure out. That may be part of the challenge, so be open to the possibility. Sometimes things are harder to get, but it doesn’t necessarily make them less special.

Tuesday. Ten of Coins. The wealth of being in a cozy environment. Fortune smiles upon those that get organized at the right time and commit to discipline; when you follow up on things as they must be, you will find that your rewards are great. Satisfaction will come from the wealth of the environment and the circumstances. Feel good.

Wednesday. Two of Coins. Juggle the circumstances, find a balance to stay on top or at least keep things in motion. This can be a really busy day in which you make time for everything and everyone that you need to make time for in your schedule. Remember that you will get as much as you put in. Be fair.

Thursday. Queen of Wands. The day is centered around the passion of a woman of creative character. When Wands manifests, it burns with creative impulse or with wrath. When dealing with this situation, you have to know when it is okay to be submissive or dominant in interaction. Present yourself with certainty and with character; it can go a very long way.

Friday. Ace of Cups. Embrace love in all of its forms. Learn to give love freely and without restraint, and you’ll learn how to make it in a world where people need compassion. Open your heart to others and love without bounds. You’ll feel so much more connected to yourself as well as your higher self.

Saturday. Eight of Swords. Sharp. Sometimes it’s possible to get stuck and feel like you’re in a prison. The worst part is that the mind can be the worst prison of them all. It is so easy to get stuck in it. Depression hits and we can be our own worst enemy.

Sunday. Ten of Cups. Happiness. Attaining an emotional goal that makes you feel stable as well as happy. This is wholesomeness of emotions and balance in your life. Hug those that are beloved to you, share your love and be thankful for all that you have. Trust me, there are many people that would prefer to be in your shoes than in their own.

What to avoid. Three of Swords. Try not to torture yourself. It’s okay to mourn; it happens all the time. There is a silver lining in even the darkest situation that you face. Don’t be too hard to yourself, you are human after all. Find compassion within your heart if it is broken, and get ready to move on. Life will reward you for your trouble.

What to strive for. Six of Cups. Relish memories that are good and make you smile. Keep them close to your heart and be ready to manifest them with others when necessary. Strive to do things that make you feel better and that will keep you motivated so that you may find yourself slowly progressing. It’s important to stay in motion. Even if progress isn’t as fast as you want it to be, staying in focus will help you go a long way.

This week seems pretty nurturing. Fingers crossed for that!

STEAMPUNK SYMPOSIUM 2014 REVIEW

This is the last entry devoted to the Steampunk Symposium held on board the Queen Mary on the weekend of January 10-12. It has been on queue for well over two weeks, but given the events, I have not been able to publish it yet. It is the reminder of a very magical weekend in mid January.

I keep wanting to write about my friend, but I feel that nothing I can say right now will do the situation justice. I hope you will enjoy this review.

From the moment I boarded the ship, I could feel something about it was special. It felt as if I had taken an elevator to another time period. As I stepped into deck A, I felt as if every step I took was taking me back a decade. It was electric and magical.

It didn’t take long at the registration table before I met my supervisor, Lori. She gave me the instructions for the volunteer room and told me to go explore the ship to get familiar with it.

Curious little Leelah decides to go to the lower levels of the ship to explore. This was a really bad — or really awesome — idea! I went two decks down to deck R and came across the floor that they host events at. Later on I came to find it is the deck on the ship with the most paranormal activity that is documented. The only other is one much less frequented, the boiler room. As I descended the steps and left the stairs, I found myself on a very eerie floor. I could feel the energy of parties long gone; I could feel people chatting loudly, talking pleasure over business and vice versa. The hair on my arms stood on its end and I decided to come running back up the stairs. The majority of my time on the ship was spent on this deck, though.

Tending to the presenters was very fun. I got to meet Votes for Hexapods and the Spoon Boy. During my ventures up and down the stairs, I encountered the guitarist of Steam Powered Giraffe. He was very friendly and constantly made rounds around the ship. I found him to be a free soul in search of adventure. I think his name is Mike.

I took a rather amusing class on etiquette for the Victorian Steampunks. The instructor made us all laugh, but reminded us about some useful rules of etiquette. The class ended with a chapter on romance, which everybody seemed attentive to. I didn’t catch the instructor’s name, but she is charming!

After class, I went to the activity to meet the Queen and get my cards read by a pirate named Thee Bluebeard. The way we met was kind of awkward, but it helped ease the tension when I sat down for a reading. He was using only the major arcana cards from the Celtic Tarot. When I sat down, I didn’t think so much about the semantics of tarot. I just wanted to have my cards read and to enjoy the experience.

Thee Bluebeard is careful to define all of the cards with his own mental list of meanings. I felt that he picked them up over the years, and had no time to ask why he had dropped the minor arcana. Still, when he started to talk to me about my situation, my eyes welled with tears. He did a simple Celtic Cross spread and turned the cards over one by one. Every time he brought up something new, I felt my whole fate shuffled out before me and laid bare to a stranger. I listened intently, hanging on every word and every unfinished sentence. He implied many situations without specifying, but there were other instances in which his inflection reflected how I felt. He was accurate. Everything that I needed to hear came up during the reading, and I had to brace myself so I wouldn’t stand up and try to hug him. It was an emotional moment.

After thanking Thee Bluebeard for his borrowed enlightenment, I had duty coming up. A volunteer by the name of Tiffany joined me for a very fancy dinner on board the ship. We had sparkling wine appropriately named Queen Mary and gabbed about Korean dramas and Japanese idols.

When we went downstairs, we found a long line for people that were early to watch Steam Powered Giraffe play. I was on ticket duty, so I got a little nervous. Still, this job meant that I would meet all the people attending the activity. The whole convention was about to squeeze into a ballroom to watch them play!

The missionary came around to offer we prayed with the Holy Spirit. She took out the book of the Holy Hammered, otherwise called the good book, and amongst heavy laughs, we downed a shot and praised the warmth of the Holy Spirit within us. I still giggle when I think about how brilliant that was!

Duty went smoothly enough. We took turns on the entrance and guarding the second exit. During that time, I found out what it is like to face an attempt for a bribe to sneak into a concert and I went to aid a lady having a severe panic attack. Both situations were smoothed out relatively fast. The night concluded with a long ride back home, a shower and the promise of a wonderful time the next day.
