TIFERET TAROT

If there is a blog I need to credit for inspiring me to carry on with Samhain Moon when I am losing steam, it’s this one. I loved seeing how well the clients and friends respond to his blog, and a specially how well thought out his content is.

This blog stands out with its routinely layout re-designs, personal photos and especially the quality content. Steve Bright is very transparent with his readings and in explaining the personal connection of the cards to his life. He is creative when it comes to cards and fabrics, and his life is interesting to read about. I love the introspection about how he got started reading. Pretty much all the memories he has shared have amused or inspired me. He also publishes great reviews!

As you read his blog, you feel as if you are reading someone’s personal journal. I also enjoy reading anecdotes others post in the comments section of his blog.

I reached out to Steve with some curiosities, and today we share his reflections with you.

♡ Tell me about the concept behind the Dark Beach Oracle?
The Dark Beach was born while I was working within the fashion industry. One of my jobs, as part of a design team, was to create fashion stories for the next seasons in store. We’d research the catwalk shows via trend prediction websites to see which styles and themes were coming through from the big designers. Though I worked in ladieswear at the time, my real passion was for menswear, which I’d graduated in and eventually moved into, so I would also spend my spare time looking at the new moods developing in that area. At the time, there was a beach story that didn’t seem to take off. It had a dark surf style, was grungy, and maybe a little too depressing for the high street. It really captured my imagination though.

I started finding images of people and began to manipulate and digitally collage beach scenes and elements together. I intensified and altered the hues of stormy skies and attached them to out-of-control seascapes. I found viscous and hungry seagulls [that wouldn’t have looked out of place in Hitchcock’s The Birds] and spliced bohemian looking women with dark trails in the sand; innocent children were sent crawling into the danger of the seascape. I wanted a deck of images that could describe how this environment could both comfort and kill.

Would you compliment self-made decks you have already started on or finished with an oracle deck?
I have certainly thought about this, more so with my silhouette tarot, The Spirit Within the Shadows Tarot. As I have been working with Lenormand’s of late, I thought I might create a sister deck but I noticed that there are already a substantial amount of Lenormands being created – some of which are based around silhouettes. If I did go down that route, I would create my own system, with my own symbols.

Fragments of an Illusion Tarot is difficult to sell because I use images from a variety of sources and they could infringe copyright. Even though the idea has been on the backburner for a long time, I have often thought about recreating it with my own models. This is something I began to do, using some popular faces from the online tarot community, but up until now, finding time to work on this has been the problem.

♡ Out of all the decks you have made, which one do you resonate with the most?
I have used The Dark Beach Oracle a lot. It speaks to me more than most other card decks, possibly because I created it myself. I can hear the birds, the sea and the calls from its characters when I use it. That deck gets very much under my skin.

The deck has become very fluid, since I have added to it on and off. I brought new cards to it this year, incorporating people I have photographed over the years.

♡ Which card(s) do you associate with now?
Over the years, I have built up a relationship with a handful of cards. Some have fallen away and are less important, but others have remained. The Hermit always remains significant and has become more so as I have grown older. I do enjoy my own company and do not have a great need for lots of company. It is kind of funny really, because while my social media profile has become greater, what I share about myself personally has become greatly reduced. With time, I have become a private person.

♡ Which card(s) are you striving to become or embody?
When I began using the tarot, around eighteen years ago, I was in my twenties, enjoyed going out partying and socializing. I was very much a knight and readily identified with the dreamy Cups suit. At the time, I couldn’t relate to the stuffy Pentacles courts and I have never been materialistic. As I have grown and expanded my horizons, I appreciate the earthy realm much more. I am now a self-employed tarot reader and tutor, so responsibility has become something I have had to take on. I remember doing an exercise of Mary Greer’s once, deducing that the King of Pentacles and I were on opposite ends of the scale. Now, he is someone I relate to and enjoy seeing in my readings.

♡ Which card(s) are you leaving behind?
With maturity, I have become a king in many areas of my life. I have grown up over the last four years and my priorities are different. I always walked hand in hand with The Fool, but these days, I understanding cause and effect much more. I don’t take silly risks so often and consider how my words and actions will manifest when unleashed on the world.

♡ What are some of the projects that you are currently working on for the future?
Over the last year I have taught small beginners classes in tarot. This is something I have enjoyed a lot but it doesn’t always enable me to touch everyone who’d like to learn. I have been slowly working on an online beginners course and have been working with students on an individual basis, both in person and through Skype. Mentoring is enjoyable. While I can teach tarot to a student from the beginning at their own pace, it is also great to respond to specific enquiries. Recently, I helped one person develop custom Angel Card readings for a public event in the U.S. It was a great session, enjoyed by the both of us.

My work with Angel Cards and energies is expanding too. I have started to offer this service on my site. My email readings have been temporarily unavailable for a while but I have started offering them up again, beginning with Angelic Messages – a three card reading, which has been created to comfort and inspire. In many ways, it is different to my tarot readings. It still has practical advice within it but it also links my client to an angelic energy and passes on a relevant and inspiring message. I have had good responses to the reading and I am excited about performing more.

♡ Is there a card archetype you channel through your writing?
I am definitely channeling something when I write but I am not sure that it is a tarot archetype. As a writer, I identify with The Magician. When I write, the words fly through me (sometimes to my surprise) and I feel as though I have touched something out of our physical world. The Magician grounds this energy, which I try to do in my work.

♡ How do you find your daily draws manifest throughout your day?
These days, my daily draws are less for me and more for others. Because of being busy, I will often create the videos the night before so when I publish them in the morning, I sometimes forget what they were about. When this happens, it can be advice for me too, which can sometimes be surprisingly relevant. A lot of people comment on how my Tarot Thoughts videos have meaning for them within their day, which is great to hear. I love to get good feedback.

♡ Do you practice other forms of divination?
I don’t really. I have mediumship experiences, but aside from that, it is just card reading.

Thank you, Steven!

HOUSE OF ZODIAC SCORPIO

My friend Tina Constantine aka Lady Nocturne is a Graphic Designer living in Puerto Rico. On her spare time she dreamed up a Zodiac editorial series which I want to share with you. I love how sexy some of these can be while still being classy. Great work! I have some amazingly talented friends!

Aries Taurus Gemini Cancer   Leo  Virgo Libra Scorpio Sagittarius

Capricorn
Aquarius

This projection comes with very direct projections of what to watch out for and general obstacles that could be in your way. Where I am from we have this saying that people don't perish in wars that have been announced ahead of time.

I have decided to complete one year of horoscopes devoted to each zodiac sign. I offer personalized Annual Review readings at my Samhain Moon Etsy shop. It is a very popular reading on this blog and in my work life, and now I am offering all 12 signs of the zodiac their own loose horoscope calendar to refer to.

LIBRA TAROT HOROSCOPE FOR 2015: TAROT OF THE NEW VISION

October. Two of Wands.
These projections are getting kicked off with the reminder to be mindful of yourself. Go over any major decisions carefully, considering the turning of the tide. Any time you are about to take a risk to further your life, consider also the consequences it will have with all of those around you in your surrounding circumstances.

November. Six of Wands.
Success comes. You took the right steps forward and have won your battles. Enjoy your days of success to yourself. It is important not to lose perspective of that and to instead enjoy the feeling of fishing above the common circumstances. It looks like you have the right to be at peace, leaving behind any conflict that may have risen at some point.

December. The Chariot.
When you move forward too fast, you may start to feel the weight of something else keeping you from going even faster. Did you really make sure to tie up all the loose ends with closure before moving forward? If not, you might want to. It feels to me like you have some very extreme differences that may slow you down should you not pay the proper attention. You’ve been warned!

January. Ten of Swords.
Here I see you may have some setbacks. You may be exhausted from 2015 as you start 2016. Try not to allow yourself to wear out or burn out, because you’re going to need energy to start this next new year. If this is you, take a day or a couple of days off to restore yourself. Disconnect from your distractions and look instead to replenish yourself. I feel like this especially applies to the mind. It is not a month to take risks, because those risks are not looking well aspected.

February. Six of Swords Rx.
Changes need to be made in order to turn things around, but in this case I feel the changes are not all up to you. It seems to me like you are actually going to have to allow things to work themselves out naturally and over time. This isn’t always what we want to hear, but sometimes it is necessary in order to be able to move on with the things you need.

March. Knight of Wands Rx.
Things are still not quite back in place for you. If you have been impulsive, now is the time to stop and compose yourself. Any time you feel like you are about to lunge forward, take a step back and breathe instead. Let the concentration come back to you and get a grip on your reasoning. That could help you loads!

April. Queen of Wands Rx.
An emphasis in following the directions of the month prior. You may still be having trouble controlling your impulses and your passions. Breathe!

May. Judgment.
The resolution! Things finally come around and set in motion. It looks like a great sign that whatever difficulties you have been experiencing are finally put to rest. Now you can really take off!

June. The Fool.
And so you took off. The cycle starts again. Make sure you carry with you the knowledge attained from the troubling experiences you just went through. Embrace knowledge as a hard-learned gift to fuel your efforts forward. You did it!

July. The Star Rx.
Dream big, and allow yourself to feel through your heart. It could be that in all of your difficulties, sometimes you don’t give yourself the space to nurture your own needs. It is very important that you do, as that will be something that keeps you feeling protected, whether by a divine source, someone else or yourself. A voice within my head says, “have faith. Don’t lose it."

August. Ten of Wands Rx.
I feel like you’ve been weighed down by tiredness, or the inability to be in pursuit of your dreams. You need a break. Take it!

September. Page of Wands Rx.
I am seeing failure to spark up the motivation you need to pick forward. You may be encountering some kind of block keeping you from pushing forward as you could like to.

Clarifier. Nine of Swords.
This makes a lot of sense. I am seeing that part of the problem is actually a lot of anxiety, or being surrounded by circumstances that seem hostile. You might even ask yourself why there is so much bad luck happening, but what I actually gather out of all this is that your reality is how you shape it. If you actually give yourself the chance to have a positive experience, you will. You have to believe it and you have to give yourself proper rest any time you encounter more serious problems.
This one is perhaps my favorite in the series with how tastefully sexy it is. I am blown away!

DAVE GAHAN AND SOULSAVERS

This night was a very big treat. I got to go into a really beautiful and intimate historic venue to witness a very special concert. I almost didn’t get to go because the tickets were sold out within three minutes of going on sale. I had let go some better seats on accident, but admit that the seats I had were very much to my liking. I had a great view of the stage and I felt close. It was honestly not easy to have a bad view unless you were in the very last row, in which case you could jump ship and stand at the very front to enjoy the show.

As soon as he came on, a smile was on my face. I love any incarnation of the band: Depeche Mode, Dave Gahan’s solo music, Martin L Gore’s solo music. They are all three different entities, but I love all of them also. They are all wonderful music projects offering quality music. I can appreciate that they mix genres and that it’s not just Synthpop. We need the variety.

The sound was great, the performance was also very powerful. I could appreciate the theme to the concert being about faith and finding light in dark times. It really spoke to me personally and I am so thankful that I could make it. It was so beautiful! Moved to tears!

The music was deep. I didn’t feel it was ultimately meant to be a religious experience because of all the metaphors and of course all the feelings being poured out. INCREDIBLE live show!!

As the concert progressed, the music got faster. I started to scream when he played Kingdom, which is one of my favorite songs off his solo music project. He played two of his own songs before he busted out two Depeche Mode songs. I felt like that place was going to cave in from the excitement that the crowd surged. They crowned the night off with Walking In My Shoes. I heard Martin L Gore was in the crowd, as we had imagined he would be there to support Dave Gahan. I wonder what it was like for him to hear those songs live.

They as a band support one another and I love that. I especially love that even though it was not a Depeche Mode concert, they treated the Depeche Mode fans with something. As a big Depeche Mode fan myself, I have to say it definitely made me happy. But I want to clarify that to me, it wasn’t a night about Depeche Mode. I respect Martin L Gore and Dave Gahan as artists and enjoy their music, whether they perform together or on their own. They are amazing and I resonate with their music.

Something that I noticed and loved is how they reworked some of the songs to fit the Soulsavers vibe and the theme of the night. He re-worked some of his songs to include the choir, and even Walking In My Shoes had some added elements to it. I think about the work that must have been put into it, and it made me enjoy the songs more because of it. It was modified, tailored to the experience of that night… and that made it personal.

SETLIST:
♡ In the Morning
♡ Shine
♡ You Owe Me
♡ Tempted
♡ Tonight
♡ All of This and Nothing
♡ Presence of God
♡ Just Try
♡ Don't Cry
♡ The Last Time
♡ Take Me Back Home
♡ My Sun

♡ Kingdom
♡ Dirty Sticky Floors
♡ Condemnation
♡ Walking In My Shoes

They had some mean choristers in the back and the guitarist was excellent. Seeing this quality music performance in such a beautiful venue was such a treat.

Some people were being overly enthusiastic during the performance, screaming louder than anybody else, especially when Dave chose to shake his hips during guitar solos. The lady next to us kept repeating “Yeah baby shake that ass, I love you!” After the show, I heard her commenting “I didn’t know any of the songs but I liked the Depeche Mode ones.”

???

It wasn’t a Depeche Mode show, but rather a special event by another band. They put out a song video and interviews before the show to have people understand it is a different venture altogether. I feel like people were expecting to see more Depeche Mode songs being performed. I felt like this show was much more Dave Gahan than anything. He looked so excited when he was performing HIS songs live. The energy in him was so different, even though he is an excellent showman and had energy all throughout the night. I could appreciate him as an artist and respect him for having the courage to pursue his love for music on his own, because what he is doing is authentic to him and it is an opportunity to get people to warm up to other genres. The music is the same high quality, so it’s definitely something we need more of to embrace variety.

If you purchase a ticket to see Dave Gahan and Soulsavers, you are purchasing a ticket to see a quality band. The name on the ticket was not Depeche Mode, and if you go to a show like that, you should be open to a different experience. I was, and I walked out of there smiling so wide I felt my lips would pop.

Please endorse side projects of artists you admire, it helps support them in their creative ventures.

IAMX METANOIA

Its been a couple of weeks now since the intimate dinner party at Danny Lohner's beautiful castle house. All of those present that have kept in touch have turned into a little IAMX family of fans that shared a very special moment in time. We've all felt the same way about the event: a private party with our music idols in a beautifully decorated castle house. It was magic! I'm so happy I got to make it to the party.

Now, let's talk about the new album. I've been following its progress closely through Pledgemusic for the last ten months. Every little snippet they shared fed the curiosity. It was like following a trail of clues to a super secret treasure, and now the final product is here. Rejoice!

From the start, the intro sets the mood and the mind set for a transcendental sound experience. I love all the dance elements and the vocals. This is an album best enjoyed in low lights with candles, chocolate and wine. It will take you somewhere. Of course, nothing wrong with listening to it in the car on your drive to and from work, or while you are in the actual process of working. I've given it a test drive at work, and love it!

Metanoia offers some of IAMX’s most personal and expressive music to date. The first new IAMX release in two and a half years, it’s largely the product of a challenging, often harrowing period during which Corner battled, and ultimately prevailed over, a variety of personal demons that caused him to reexamine his personal and artistic priorities—and to briefly consider abandoning music altogether.

“It was a combination of despair and depression and insomnia, and it was very difficult,” Corner explains, “It took me a long time to get through it, but I learned a lot about myself, and I developed a new set of mental tools that allowed me to survive.”

“For about a year, I really thought that music was one of the things that was hurting me psychologically,” he continues. “I went through a lot of therapy, and eventually I realized that it’s all down to my own choices. And I realized that it wasn’t the music that was hurting me, it was just that I had to reprogram myself to approach things in a different way, and it became very clear to me that I still wanted to make music more than ever.”

Corner emerged from this period of intense self-examination with a new attitude towards his role as a musician and artist. He also relocated from Berlin, which had served as the London native’s base since 2008, to the sunnier environs of Los Angeles. The change of scene, and the artist’s renewed enthusiasm, are reflected throughout Metanoia.
As Metanoia demonstrates, Chris Corner has emerged from his personal travails with a renewed sense of musical purpose.

“Making this record has given me a lot of confidence and strength,” he says, adding, “I’m seeing things really clearly now. I see how music nourishes me, and I’ll never let myself forget that. You make your own happiness, and you have to work every day to stay focused on the things that matter.”

—From the IAMX web site

The general consensus of us at the party was that the album was indeed dark, intense and dancey. It's a great 6th piece in the IAMX body of work, and has some elements that I enjoy from Chris Corner's earlier work. This is a beautiful album, a worthwhile listen and an intense personal experience. Metanoia did not disappoint!

The tour is just about to start, and sadly I won't be in town by the time he plays. I'm sure that it will be a lovely experience, and hopefully I can catch videos of his new performances online. For all those that are attending, a treat of an experience awaits! Bring glitter.

I can't encourage you enough to buy a copy and support an artist you'll love. Metanoia has been on repeat ever since I downloaded it this morning. Treasure boxes soon to follow!

Thank you, Chris Corner and all of IAMX!
